So this weekend just past was the performance weekend for our collaboration with Plymouth city college drama students. it was show time!
I finished my dress Friday morning!!!! it was close, but it got done. the sea shells and starfish applique shapes were what took the time. so i left my hem to do that morning, and remove all my tacking thread and do any last minute tidy ups.
We got the costumes down to Royal William Yard, about an hour before the dress rehearsal. one of my fellow students Fiona asked me, 'how are you feeling about tonight? excited, nervous?' to which i replied, 'id rather not comment until the actress has tried it on.....and i know whether it fits' ha! ha! that wasn't me being negative, just until that moment i would be able to relax anyway. luckily it fit her like a glove! :) everyone's did! it was a real accomplishment! everyone's faces went form nervous and anxious to relived and pleased in seconds. it was a real proud moment for us all, as we had only had one fitting with our actors, with our toiles, and altered our patterns accordingly. below are some of the photos i took on Saturday afternoon. the sun was shining and the light bounced off my embellishments so beautifully. the organza sparkled and even the duchess satin had a shimmery sheen. thank goodness it was sunny!! :)
